What we treat

Joint Academy is an all-in-one solution for treating back and chronic joint pain. Our physical therapists will tailor the treatment to your needs.

We’re here to help

  • Joint Academy offers digital treatment for osteoarthritis, joint pain and low back pain. We have treatments that specialize in osteoarthritis of the knees, hips and hands as well as pain in the lower back, neck and shoulders. The treatment is offered via an app and is available wherever and whenever you want.

  • When you download the app, you will answer a few questions. Based on your answers, you will be connected to one of our licensed Physical Therapists, or be referred to another care provider. Together with the Physical Therapist you will review your symptoms and medical history to ensure that our treatment is suitable for you.

  • The program officially starts the day after you complete your registration and you have been assigned to a physical therapist. You may choose to begin your daily exercises and lessons before your initial phone consultation.

  • When you start your treatment, you will be connected with a Physical Therapist who will help you get started with your individual exercise program. You then will have regular follow-ups as your Physical Therapist supports you throughout the treatment. Together, you set goals for your pain improvement and can track your progress each week. Your Physical Therapist is available for questions every day of the week in the app.

  • During your program, you will receive two easy exercises with video instructions every day in the app. They take 5-10 minutes to perform. After completing an exercise, you report to your Physical Therapist how it went. If necessary, your Physical Therapist will adapt the exercise according to your pain and your physical ability. Initially, the exercises will be of a simpler nature so that you get used to the movements and find the right technique. The exercises will gradually increase in difficulty as you become stronger, have less pain and feel safer. This is guided by your Physical Therapist and your feedback in your regular follow-ups.

  • Program length varies depending on your unique health needs and goals, but success with your personal lifestyle goals will determine the program duration. In addition, regular communication with your Physical Therapist will help guide this timeline.

  • Guided exercises, like the ones received here, have been proven by research as an effective treatment method for joint pain. Joint Academy’s exercise program is designed to help strengthen the muscles necessary to stabilize and protect your painful joint. In addition, as your muscles strengthen, the cartilage (material covering the surface of the joints, which acts as a shock absorber and allows for smooth sliding/gliding of the joint) is stimulated to repair itself.

  • As part of your treatment, you will take part in interactive lessons in the app. You will learn more about your diagnosis, about pain and get tips on how to handle everyday life in the best way. The training material consists of simple, short texts and illustrations where you can answer a few questions afterwards to ensure that you have taken in the information.

  • As a healthcare company, Joint Academy takes security and patient privacy very seriously. We operate in accordance with all applicable privacy and data protection laws. • Joint Academy is a personalized experience designed to support each individual’s specific needs related to osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, hand and hip. This includes people who have recently been diagnosed with OA, have lived with the disease long term, and those attempting to avoid joint replacement surgery.

  • Joint Academy offers treatment for patients over the age of 18 with so-called non-specific low back pain, which is the most common form of back pain. You do not need to have had an X-ray to start treatment. If you have been in an accident in the last 3 months, have previous or ongoing cancer, an inflammatory disease or if you have a recent onset of radiating pain below the knee, we first refer you to a physical assessment before starting with Joint Academy. If you are pregnant or recently given birth, we cannot offer you treatment at this time.

  • Consider contacting your specific insurance plan to determine your coverage availability, or apply now as an individual by downloading the Joint Academy app. Joint Academy partners with health plans across the U.S. Enter your insurance information when signing up to see if Joint Academy accepts your coverage. If we currently don’t partner with your plan, we can provide you with the documentation you need if you have out-of-network benefits. If you are uninsured, you can try Joint Academy for 7 days free of charge. For any additional specific questions regarding insurance, please contact [email protected]
